PayPal & Braintree Test Card Numbers
PayPal's payment processing is powered by Braintree, and these test numbers work in the Braintree/PayPal sandbox for triggering valid transactions and testing card-type detection. A real CVV isn't required — use 123 for Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Diners Club, and 1234 for American Express.

Testing Specific Transaction Outcomes
In the Braintree sandbox, the transaction outcome is controlled by the amount you charge — not the card number. This is a key difference from Stripe's model, where each test card number encodes a specific outcome. With Braintree, any valid test card number above combined with the amounts below determines the result:
| Amount Range | Result |
|---|---|
| $0.01–$1,999.99 | Authorized and settled |
| $2,000.00–$2,999.99 | Processor declined |
| $3,000.00–$3,000.99 | Failed |
A Note on Other Processors (Square, Authorize.Net, etc.)
Most major payment processors publish their own sandbox test card numbers — and they are not interchangeable between providers. A Stripe test number will not work in a Square sandbox, and vice versa; each provider's numbers only carry meaning inside that provider's test environment.
Rather than reproduce numbers we haven't verified ourselves, we link you to the primary sources: Square's sandbox testing documentation and Authorize.Net's testing guide.
